It is very important that the R&D activities of the IBME are based on a real understanding of clinical need and of patient benefit, and the recognition that these elements must to be centrally and deeply embedded in any given project to increase the likelihood that any medical technology device or product that results will be both clinically and commercially successful.
The UCL IBME approach to translational R&D in medical technologies is new. Its aim is to build on established best practice from around the world, and to add extra value by utilising its Enterprise Academy, and the wider UCL expertise base, in a novel, proactive way.
